It’s carnival time in Ashley Cross..

It’s carnival time in Ashley Cross..

The much loved and established Party In The Park in Ashley Cross is turning up the heat this year. Music industry veteran Paul Potter has joined forces with Jane Jones (Jane Jones PR) to deliver what is looking like the event of the year in Poole.

You may have seen carnival style parades around Bournemouth and Poole town centres over the last few weeks promoting this good times event. Speaking of good times, Soul legends Norman Jay and Jazzie B are hosting and performing at this 2 day festival, alongside a huge line up of local talent.

Elite Living caught up with Jane and Paul this week to discuss all things Party In The Park..

1. Jane, how did Party In The Park start? Have you been involved with the event from its birth?

Jane: It started back in 2001 and was originally known as ‘Brunch in the Park’, being part of Taste 2001, which was a food festival in Poole taking place over a period of two weeks. Brunch in the Park was one of the events staged to support the food festival. Jane Jones PR has been involved from the beginning.

2. The event has a real community feel with lots of local businesses involved. You must be delighted to have so much local support..

Jane: We are always delighted to be supported by so many local businesses and this year we have the support of Quality Electrical, Meridian Lifts, County Epos, Rejuvenate IT, Frost & Co and the Daily Echo is our media partner.

3. We see that the event is being taken to a new level in 2014. What was your thinking behind starting to book famous artists? How have you managed to secure such established names?

Jane: The thinking behind changing the event so significantly was because everything needs to move on in life and evolve and it really was time to take the event to a far higher level.

Paul: The idea was to bring a piece of carnival to the south coast for the weekend and give them the experience that they may have never seen before. I’ve been in the music and events business for 25 years internationally and have called lots of favours from friends to bring some famous names to Ashley Cross this year, mixed with new and established local talent.

4. The ticket pricing has changed slightly as a result. What message have you got for anyone that is slightly disgruntled by that?

Paul: Standard tickets are just £8, with one child free. Considering the quality of the line up and production that we have planned over the 2 days, this event still offers fantastic value for locals to experience an incredible show, right on their doorstep.

5. There is a large VIP hospitality marquee at this year’s event. What will customers experience here?

Paul: We have added a VIP enclosure with backstage access and green room bar. VIP hospitality guests can expect to experience an authentic ‘all access’ vibe. A very unique and special environment where guests can meet the performers and enjoy socialising with friends and the PITP film crew, who are producing a documentary style video of this year’s event. For just £22 per day including a glass of champs on arrival and entry, I’d certainly recommend the hospitality option for those wanting a bit of rock ‘n roll in Ashley Cross!

6. Who are you most excited to see performing at this year’s event?

Jane: Everyone as they all have their own individual merits and style. The local bands are all
fantastic and we are thrilled to have secured them and we also can’t wait for these national
celebrities to headline and attend our event in Parkstone, rather than Notting Hill!

Paul: Has anyone seen Bob Povey? Can’t wait to see him play!

7. Lastly, if you could sum up the all new Party In The Park 2014 in 1 sentence…

Jane: A phenomenal community event that has grown massively over the years, offering an eclectic mix of fantastic music, fabulous foods, interesting crafts, great kids entertainment, and above all fun for all the family!

Paul: It’s carnival time!
